Oberlin: Songs of the Sixties
Join us for an evening of singing the songs that inspired and empowered the Civil Rights and Peace Movements of the 1960’s - from peace songs & freedom songs to Dylan, Seeger, Baez, Peter Paul & Mary to Motown, Beatles, Stones, and Grateful Dead! Help us celebrate 160 years of Oberlin town-gown collaboration for a peaceful and just world - including the Vietnam War teachins that filled First Church in the late 1960's.
Peter Blood (OC '68) & Annie Patterson (creators of the songbooks Rise Up Singing and Rise Again) will lead this sing-along along with other wonderful Oberlin alumni & friends. All are welcome!
We will sing out of the Rise Up Singing and Rise Again. Bring along copies if you have them. Copies will also be available to borrow (or buy) at the concert.

Admission: by donation to support the Class of ‘68 Racial Justice Scholarship Fund and the Oberlin Sanctuary Fund. (The Sanctuary Fund will help fund renovations to First Church that will facilitate the ability to welcome immigrants facing deportation into physical sanctuary at First Church.)
- The Oberlin-Wellington Rescue took place in 1848 - 160 years ago this September.
- Oberlin College frequently invited Pete Seeger to perform at Finney Chapel during the 1950's and 1960's when he was blacklisted from major concert venues in the U.S.
- Many us from the Class of '68 travelled to the south to do Civil Rights work through OACR (Oberlin Action for Civil Rights).
- Busloads of Oberlin students travelled to Washington on October 21, 1967 to take part in a National Mobilization rally at Lincoln Memorial featuring Phil Ochs among other folksingers.
