Eva Cassidy
Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was an American singer and guitarist known for her interpretations of jazz and blues. Blessed with a powerful, emotional soprano voice she’s constantly voted one of the greatest female singers of her generation despite being largely unknown outside her home area of Washington DC until she gained recognition in the UK after her death.
Her recordings of "Fields of Gold" and "Over theRainbow" were played on BBC not long after her death (from melanoma at age 33 in 1996). This led to huge popularity in the UK leading to over 10 million sales of her posthumous recordings.
Her covers of many folk, blues & jazz classics are deeply and uniquely beautiful and moving.
